Around the Conceicao village

Conceicao has plenty of the traditional and relaxed Portuguese charm that British holiday makers cherish. On the doorstep you will find a newsagent (stocking English newspapers), a small supermarket 2 minutes walk away for fresh bread and essentials, with a larger supermarket just 5 minutes walk away for all your food shopping, including bakery and butchers. There’s also an English supermarket 3 minutes away for your home from home foods like Pukka pies, Ryvita, Bisto and Richmond sausages.

Also in Conceicao there is a pharmacy, several cafe bars serving traditional Portuguese lunches from 7 Euros (including wine) and restaurants. The two main restaurants are The Hairy Lemon and Rota dos Sabores. Eating and drinking around Conceicao is more reasonably priced than Cabanas and Tavira, which are themselves great value compared to Vilamoura.

The Hairy Lemon is a fantastic child friendly restaurant just 2 minutes walk from Casa Nirvana and a great way of acclimatising you to the area, open during the day and evening. The English owners, Lorraine and Clive, are very welcoming and having their own swimming pool, football on TV, entertainment some nights, you can easily spend the whole day there with the kids. Food ranges from burgers to Sunday roasts and is great value. Drinks are very reasonably priced. See their latest offers on their Facebook page.

The Hairy Lemon

Rota dos Sabores is on the doorstep and serves lovely food. This is a Portuguese restaurant, open all year round, serving traditionally prepared meats and fish. The staff are really helpful explaining the menu, so be sure to make your way to this restaurant. It is tucked away behind the church, but a must to visit when in Conceicao. Our favourites are the Prawn starter (to share) and Steak on a Stone or the Salmon steak. See their latest offers on their Facebook page.
